2014 Detroit Design Festival kicks off today
Detroit Design Festival, an annual event that aims to showcase Detroit's creative talent and collective design aesthetics to national and international audiences, is kicking off today, September 23.
The six-day festival will feature nearly 500 designers and 30 events, which are expected to draw 25,000 visitors.
Melinda Anderson, a manager at the Detroit Creative Corridor Center, which organizes Detroit Design Festival, said that they tried to scale down the vent as it could be overwhelming.
Speaking about the festival, Anderson said, "It can be overwhelming. We tried to scale it down this year. There's just so much design talent here."
The first annual Detroit Design Festival featured 85 events throughout the city. This year, organizers have clustered events in order to make the festival visitor-friendly. Events at the festival will range from studio tours to panel discussions and from block parties to a workshop on producing comics.
The six-day festival is scheduled to run through Sunday, September 28, 2014.
