Grand Rapids offering several events in addition to ArtPrize 2014
The ArtPrize 2014, the sixth annual international art contest and urban exhibition, which started last Wednesday with big fanfare in downtown Grand Rapids, is not the only big event in the city. Those who want to go and enjoy something different can any of the following:
Fall Bridal Show: It is one the biggest bridal shows in Grand Rapids. Scheduled at DeVos Place, 303 Monroe Ave. NW on Friday and Saturday, it presents runway fashion shows featuring the newest trends in bridal gowns.
Kids ART Fest: Scheduled to take place Sept. 28 from 12 noon to 5 p. m. at Grand Rapids Children's Museum, this art festival is free to access for all.
Gala of the royal horses: Started on Friday, Sept. 26 at Van Andel Arena, this show is presents stallion dancing alongside Spanish flamenco dancers. It is an equestrian event that features live performers alongside the Royal Horses of Europe, including the Andalusian, Arabian, Friesian and Lipizzaner breeds.
Juried Short List Event: During this ArtPrize Critical Discourse event, the jurors will each present and discuss a list of five nominees in categories like 2D, 3D, Time-based and Installation. A 5th category prize is scheduled to be given to an ArtPrize venue for exceptional curation. This event is scheduled to take place Sept. 29, from 7 p. m. to 9 p. m. at the HUB Soundstage, 41 Sheldon Blvd. SE.
St. Cecilia Busking Site Performances: Busking, an act of playing music that is otherwise performed in the street, is scheduled to take place from 11:30 a. m. to 8 p. m. throughout the first 10-day period of ArtPrize.
